Assessment first
We look at your injury or condition, any instructions from your doctor or surgeon, and what you need to do day to day. This guides the type of splint we make.

A splint that fits well is more comfortable to wear and easier to live with. We make your splint during your appointment, shaping it directly to your hand so it suits your injury, your skin and your daily routine. You leave knowing how to wear it and care for it.
A splint, also called an orthosis, is a support worn on the hand, wrist, thumb or fingers. Custom splints are made from thermoplastic, a material that softens in warm water and is then moulded around your hand. Once it cools, it holds its shape. Splints can protect healing tissue, rest a sore joint, hold a finger in a set position or help support movement, depending on what your hand needs.

We shape the splint directly on your hand in the clinic, then trim and smooth the edges so it fits closely and comfortably.
We explain when to wear your splint, how to keep it and your skin clean, and what to watch for. You get a plan that suits your routine.
Swelling and healing change the shape of your hand. We review your splint and adjust or remake it when needed.
We learn about your injury, your surgeon's or doctor's instructions and the tasks you need to manage.
Your splint is moulded to your hand during the appointment and checked for comfort and pressure points.
You wear the splint as planned, and we check it at follow-up visits and adjust it as your hand changes.
When the time is right, and in line with your medical team's advice, we help you reduce splint wear and build up normal use.
Every recovery is different. Timeframes depend on your injury, any surgery, and your treating doctor's or surgeon's advice.
If your doctor or surgeon has asked for a splint, it is a good idea to book soon so your hand is protected while it heals. You do not need a referral to book. If you are using a brace that rubs, slips or does not seem to fit, we are happy to take a look.
Most splints are made and fitted during your appointment, so you usually leave wearing it. More detailed splints may take a little longer, and we will let you know when you book.
Some private health funds contribute towards hand therapy and splints, depending on your level of cover. TAC, WorkSafe, NDIS and DVA may also cover splints where they are approved as part of your care. It is a good idea to check with your fund or case manager.
It depends on your injury. Some splints need to stay on at all times and others can come off for washing or exercises. We will give you clear instructions based on your condition and your doctor's advice.
No referral needed. Call to book, or send an enquiry and we'll get back to you.
